Most openers usually have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years. Doors bought from Sears, Home Depot, or Lowes have three-piece rails which are not as reliable, Always purchase an opener from a dealer.
- What size do you get? A single-car garage door only needs a 1/3 hp opener. A two-car garage with a heavy wooden door ideally uses a 3/4 hp opener, yet 1/2 hp openers are most common. The 1/2 hp opener will be used on most any door as long as it's under 300 lbs.
